Sergio Perez came into the Mexican GP with hopes of salvaging what has been a disastrous season. The Mexican, the home hero is what the fans came to see and cheer for. Unfortunately, it seems as if it wasn’t meant to be as he crashed out. However, the crash soon turned into a nightmare as fans ruthlessly insulted Sergio Perez.

Perez qualified P5 for the Mexican GP as Daniel Ricciardo beat him and started P4. Speculations were already being made around Checo’s Red Bull future and Ricciardo’s performance was just another nail in the coffin. However, the start of the Mexican GP has made it increasingly hard for Perez to put his point forward. But what exactly happened?

After a disappointing qualifying, Sergio Perez made comments about the main race being a long one as he hoped to beat Ricciardo. But it wasn’t meant to be. Both Sergio Perez and Max Verstappen got a great launch off the start. With the run toward turn 1 being a long one, both Verstappen and Checo got alongside Charles Leclerc, courtesy of the great start. 

Checo seemed to be a bit too eager going into Turn 1 as he was on the outside of Leclerc. The Mexican didn’t give the Monegasque enough room, who had Verstappen on the inside. Sergio Perez was sent flying outside of Turn 1. As a result of the crash, pole sitter Charles Leclerc also acquired damage to his front wing. Checo was still running but was retired on the very next lap as the damage to the car was irreparable.

Once the car was retired, Perez was seen sitting inside the car in the pit as he almost broke into tears. While one has got to feel sorry for the home hero, the fans had no sympathy toward Perez at all.

Fans took to Twitter as soon as Sergio Perez crashed out of his home race. Many advised that Sergio Perez isn’t the one that Red Bull needs anymore as they advised that Daniel Ricciardo should be the one taking the seat away. Some called Perez out for being too ambitious going into turn 1 as it was totally his fault that he crashed out of the race.

With Ricciardo producing a magical outing (in an AlphaTauri!), few would justify Checo getting retained by Red Bull. Even the Mexican is aware of what can happen as he admitted after Daniel’s awesome qualifying.

Thus, fans saying, “Ricciardo should get the RB seat” come from a solid logical point of view.

Going three-wide into Turn 1 at Mexico is not a wise situation to pull off any heroics unless the driver is 100% in the clear to pull a move off. Checo on the outside with 2 cars alongside him, that was “all on him” for sure & he paid the price!

There was pace in Sergio Perez this weekend. He could have played it smart to stay in the race & anything could have happened for him over 71 laps. So, that miss on another home podium (maybe even a win) is “his own fault”.

For a change, he had an awesome start to be in the fray for the lead of the race. And the 33-year-old blew it with a “ridiculous move” like Lewis Hamilton in Qatar 3 weeks ago.

Ricciardo has certainly pushed his case further for that 2024 RB seat. Even someone like Fernando Alonso or Lando Norris may catch Red Bull’s eye in a more serious consideration after this home horror for Perez.
