In response to whether his seemingly insurmountable records will ever be broken, the great Michael Schumacher once said in an interview, “Records are there to be broken.” This was in 2008 before the German joined Mercedes. It’s 2022 now, and Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton has broken all but a few of German’s records.

The Briton, who is ranked above the former Ferrari driver in many circles, narrowly missed out on surpassing the greatest record of his, winning an eighth world championship.

Now, that didn’t happen and we know why that was the case. And for Hamilton to be in that situation again, there’s a whole season ahead.

However, there’s one record of Michael Schumacher that Lewis Hamilton matched in 2021, and can break right at the start of the 2022 season, in Bahrain. The record in question is that of a race win for most consecutive seasons.

The German and the Briton are equal in that regard, each winning a Grand Prix in 15 seasons straight. Schumacher won a race between 1992 to 2006 with Benetton and Ferrari and Hamilton has done the same between 2007 to 2021 with McLaren and Mercedes.

Is Lewis Hamilton in ‘pole position’ to win at Bahrain?

Not that the history matters all that much in a sport like Formula 1, the race results of the last few Bahrain GP is still worth pointing out.

Because in the last three races at Bahrain, Lewis Hamilton has come out on top. He won in 2019, in 2020, and most recently, in 2021 as well.

With the new car and the new regulations, it won’t be unfair to say that the field, the slate, is as level as it ever has been.

But despite the cars changing shape, the rulebook making things more competitive, one thing which cannot change is the talent, the class of the drivers. And there’s arguably no driver more talented, more skillful than Lewis Hamilton heading into the 2022 season.
