Following the poor start of the season, F1 entities bombarded Lewis Hamilton with suggestions of retirement. However, as things stand, talks of retirement have dissipated and talks of a contract extension are gathering traction. Especially after the Brit’s recent intention to continue in the premier class.

Despite his current contract nearing expiry, the 37-year-old is confident of his F1 future with Mercedes. Mercedes boss Toto Wolff is matching Hamilton’s future outlook as well and even claimed, “it’s 100 percent his seat.”

The Mercedes boss had an answer for those who are concerned about Hamilton’s advanced years.

Using examples, the Mercedes boss backed Hamilton racing well into his 40s. “You can see today’s athletes pushing the boundaries in terms of age,” remarked Wolff.

“For me, Fernando is performing at a very high level, and you look at the best athlete in the world in Tom Brady. He’s still throwing the ball, and he’s 43 years old.”

“As long as you continue to look after yourself and develop your cognitive senses, then he [Hamilton] has many more years in him, and I’m certain that’s going to be the case here with the team,” Wolff concluded.

It’s good to see Wolff looking at age as just a number while using perfect examples of Tom Brady and Fernando Alonso to answer all the doubters.

However, when will get an update on Hamilton’s own silly season?

Where does Lewis Hamilton stand in terms of signing a new deal with the Silver Arrows?

Not anytime soon would be a quick answer to the contract extension talks question. However, it seems after the current championship season ends, so will Hamilton’s silly season.

“We definitely want to finish the season and then find some quiet time over the winter, like we did last time around that started during the holidays and lasted over two months,” revealed Wolff.

Although his current contract extends to 2023, we might hear about Hamilton’s new contract sooner. It could, however, take up some time as it did the last time around.
