One wouldn’t expect a Formula 1 driver to be involved in a serious crime. Like one that could threaten his whole life to be spent in jail. Well, have you heard of Nelson Piquet? Nelson Piquet is now being accused of committing a $3.2 million scandal that’ll trigger imminent arrest just months after $950,000 crimes against Lewis Hamilton. What has Piquet gotten himself into?

Nelson Piquet has been a controversial figure in F1 during his time in F1 on track and now off track. The Brazilian driver was accused of making use of some insensitive words and racial slurs for Lewis Hamilton back in 2021. Months ago, the court made the verdict in regard to these accusations as they found Nelson Piquet guilty and fined him $950,000 for the same.

However, it looks like Nelson Piquet hasn’t learned from his mistakes, as he is now on the brink of being arrested for a serious crime. Brasildefato.com.br reports that Nelson Piquet was involved in a jewelry robbery that was worth $3.2 million. Nelson Piquet is a big supporter of Renan Bolsonaro and, according to reports, Bolsonaro used a property owned by the F1 driver as a warehouse to store boxes that contained expensive items.

Reports also suggest that Nelson Piquet was the one who delivered the suitcase with the gold jewelry directly to Bolsonaro. Bolsonaro was the one who removed the jewelry from the Presidential collection. PF now has evidence against Nelson Piquet and Bolsonaro, as reports on an imminent arrest are being advised.

Only a court verdict will now tell us how much of a punishment will Nelson Piquet attract for the alleged accusations against him

What exactly is the Presidential collection robbery story that Nelson Piquet is involved in?

Back in October 2021, Bento Albuquerque, the then Minister of Mine and Energy, was found with $3.2 million worth of jewelry as he came back from a trip to Saudi Arabia. Any goods that exceed $1000 attract an import tax which is 50% of the value of that item. To avoid taxes, the jewelry would have to be declared as a gift for the state.

In this scenario, it would remain within the Presidential collection as first lady Michelle Bolsonaro wouldn’t be able to take them for herself. The now-accused robbery opened up the door to many more accusations, and not only the robbery.
