Nelson Piquet was accused of using homophobic slurs against Lewis Hamilton during an interview back in 2021. The Brazilian court got involved and a decision was made recently where Nelson Piquet was fined $950,000 for his questionable actions. Nonetheless, the Brazilian court has made some new rulings in favor of the homophobic law and Lewis Hamilton is celebrating.

Lewis Hamilton was recently presented with honorary Brazilian citizenship. The Brazilian Supreme Court recently passed the ruling that Homophobia will now be punishable by prison. Lewis Hamilton celebrated the ruling by sharing @pubity’s Instagram post on his story. The Briton is known for using his platform in an efficient way to stand against social evils and to enlighten the people about it as well.

The British racer races with the LGBTQ flag painted on his helmet to show support for the community and fight for their rights. The 38-year-old has always spoken about diversity on the F1 grid as he’s the only driver of color. And when the ruling against Nelson Piquet was made, Lewis Hamilton took a moment to point out the wrong that’s been happening in Uganda.

According to Autosport, Lewis Hamilton said, “I’d like to acknowledge the Brazil government. I think it’s pretty amazing what they’ve done in holding someone accountable, showing people that that is not tolerated. I wish that more governments out there would do that, such as you’ve just seen in Uganda [that passed a bill to impose a death penalty for homosexuality].”
