Lewis Hamilton turned the world of F1 upside down with his blockbuster Ferrari announcement. No one even had a hint of Hamilton’s move to the Italian team apart from a few rumors linking him with Ferrari before he signed his contract extension. This news was the most protected secret in the paddock where usually no secret is kept safe. However, the lips of all entities were sealed and there were only a select few who were privy to this information. As it turns out, the Brit’s future teammate Charles Leclerc was among the select few.

Leclerc made his first public appearance after Hamilton’s mega announcement during the launch of the Ferrari SF-24, which left a few fans disappointed. The Monegasque was quizzed about his future teammate during the livery launch and he made an interesting revelation. When asked, “Did you know about Lewis coming to Ferrari?” Leclerc replied, “Obviously!”

He added, “The contractual discussions are not things that are done in 1 night, so I was aware of the possibility that Lewis could come in Ferrari. So yes, I knew of that.”

Perhaps the rumors were true but the Brit still wanted to race for Mercedes for another year and made the Ferrari revelation strategically after securing a compliable contract from the Brackley outfit. However, somehow even Alpine man Pierre Gasly was aware of this.

We understand how Leclerc was made aware or came to know about his future teammate being part of the Ferrari family. However, someone who is not linked to the Italian team in any shape or form like Pierre Gasly was also aware of this well-kept secret. He admitted it recently to the media while addressing his links with Mercedes.

“I was aware of some talks with Ferrari. Ultimately he (Hamilton) is towards the end of his career, so it was either now or never,” said Gasly. “I think it was kept secret for quite a long time. I wish him the best.”

We are not sure how the Frenchman stumbled upon the same information as the Ferrari confidant but he did. Regardless, the two revealed this insider information only after the news broke out and there’s no crime in that.
