It takes a lot of self-control to be a sportsperson. While Novak Djokovic may have restricted himself from the pleasure of devouring chocolate for almost two years—from the summer of 2010 to right after beating Rafael Nadal in the 2012 Australian Open final—it’s safe to say McLaren driver Lando Norris doesn’t have that same level of self-control. Not when it comes to a $27 pack of probably his favorite snack in the world—the Dutch delicacy, Stroopwafels.

Formula 1 returned after a month-long summer break, and so did Norris after going offline for almost the same duration. While he posted the occasional Instagram story with his new best friend, Martin Garrix, he officially returned to the land of social media with a Twitter post last night. Wearing an all-black outfit in the Zandvoort paddock, he captioned the pictures, “back in my favorite place.” Although his caption didn’t leave most British fans thrilled, the Dutch fans sure loved it. This begs the question: Could his “favorite place” have something to do with the abundance of his favorite snack?

In a video McLaren posted on Instagram, Norris talked about the Dutch GP. He said, “Zandvoort is one of the most exciting races of the season. Good vibes, good music always in the paddock, plenty of Stroopwafels. So, I’m happy and excited.” It’s become evident that stroopwafels are the way to his heart because every time he sees a fan with them, he can’t help but go all gooey-eyed for the gooey delicacy.

His love for Stroopwafels was proved after he went almost ballistic to get his hands on it when a fan was waiting to give it to him in Zandvoort. A Twitterati posted the exchange, captioning it, “he was ready to hop out the window for the stroopwaffel 😭😭,” and fans couldn’t help but comment on the Brit’s antics.

Lando Norris would “jump out of a window” for Stroopwafels

In the video posted on Twitter, Norris is seen exiting the track in a car, sitting in the backseat. When he noticed a fan offering him a pack of Stroopwafels, his goal visibly shifted from wanting to settle back into his seat to doing everything possible to get his hands on the snack. He lowered his window and—in a risky maneuver—practically jumped out of it to take the Stroopwafels, snatching them away from the fan. Looking at his antics, Twitteratis has some fun reactions. A few fans called Norris “feral” for the way he stuck his head out of the window to snatch the snack out of his fan’s hand.

Many others wrote how he really wanted them because of how crazy he acted to get them.

One fan simply said Norris should get all the Stroopwafel in the world.
