There is nothing better to top off an incredibly difficult race than with some on-track drama. That is exactly what we witnessed under the Singapore night sky during the 2023 edition of the race. Defying all odds (Mercedes) Lando Norris secured his third podium since the British GP. The Brit might’ve not been the best during the race to secure the podium, but his close ally’s presence after three years worked as a lucky charm.

The close ally in question is one of the most important people in Norris’s life in F1. We are talking about Andrew Jarvis. Unknown to many, Jarvis, or as Norris likes to call him, Jarv, is his McLaren performance engineer, who was away for three years. In the first race since his return, Norris secured a podium.

So in his post-race presser, as seen on X, Norris appreciated both Will Joseph (his race engineer) and Jarvis. “He’s (Will) always been very helpful. I’ve been with Will since 2018, 2017, in fact. He was my first engineer that I was introduced to and then guy that I worked with,” he first appreciated his race engineer.

“So, it’s a good relationship I have with Will. And even Jarv [Andrew Jarvis], my performance engineer, he’s come back after being away for three years. So, it’s our first podium together as well, which is nice,” he added.

The Brit laid out the four-step podium heist plan, and it worked like a charm. Now we know it involved these two distinguished gentlemen. However, there is one more man responsible for his podium without whom it wouldn’t have been possible.

After losing track position and pitting for medium compound tires, the Mercedes men put themselves in a position of power. Norris was extremely vulnerable and had little to no chance of defending his track position.

In stepped Carlos Sainz and changed the race for him and his old teammate. Keeping Norris within a second of him, the Ferrari man created a DRS train, which helped them both successfully defend against the Mercedes men. Sainz’s contribution was not lost on Norris and he was grateful for the Spaniard in his post-race interview as well.

He said, “Carlos was very generous, trying to help me get DRS. It helped my race and helped his. We knew it would be tough when Mercedes boxed.”

Norris appreciated his generosity and was fully aware he wouldn’t have finished P2 if it wasn’t for his old friend.
