Lewis Hamilton returned to the F1 grid eyeing an 8th world title, but his campaign started on the back foot with a bouncing W13. After losing the 2021 Abu Dhabi GP to arguably the future face of the sport, Max Verstappen, the Brit saw himself face to face with another face of tomorrow in his own team.

The Mercedes signed the up-and-coming talent, George Russell from the Williams to join forces with Hamilton. After years of fighting at the back of the grid, the 24-year-old joined the Silver Arrows with ambitions of fighting for race wins. However, just like the knighted Brit, his ambitions took a hit with an underperforming car.

Nevertheless, Russell, with his consistent performances, has outshone the F1 multi-time champion and kept the nickname ‘Mr. Consistency’. Former F1 driver, Juan Pablo Montoya, commented on the British skirmish in the season so far.

He said, “I think the way it is going at the moment, I think Lewis is starting to get to his head a little bit. And Lewis is running a little bit stronger than anybody expected. And I think that makes it tough.”

“If you look at it, yes, it is Mr Consistency, but the guy getting the podium is Lewis. If they had the fastest two cars at the moment, Lewis would be winning.”

“And so, do you want to be Mr Consistency, or do you want to be the winner?”

Will Lewis Hamilton win a race in 2022?

Remarkably, Lewis Hamilton has won a Grand Prix in each year he has contested on the F1 grid. Although he has picked 6 podium finishes in the 2022 season, none of them have been the top step. Thus, putting his 15-year record at risk and Montoya presented his opinion on Hamilton’s mindset.

He commented, “I think, my two cents, Lewis is enjoying racing at the moment. He really enjoys going to the track, and driving the car, and he has no pressure. To the point that he has no pressure, he just loves driving the car.” 

“And I think as long as he feels that he is competitive, then he will race.”

“I think the point he starts feeling, starting to be on pace, then he might stop. I think everybody, I would say I was a little surprised to see how strong he is running against George. Especially how strong George ran, when he ran that Mercedes before.”

“George has done a really good job in qualifying, but I think Lewis is starting to get the better of him. And that is a reality.” he concluded.
