Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton are battling against each other for the world championship in 2021. They have been at it for the entire year and with just seven races to go; it is getting intense. Verstappen is two points behind his rival going into the Turkish Grand Prix.

In the driver’s press conference, Max was asked if he was not racing a driver who would he have rooted for. His answer was quite surprising, as he picked Alonso over Lewis.

Fernando Alonso, I like his style: Max Verstappen

During a question asked by a fan in the driver’s press conference, Verstappen stated he likes Fernando Alonso‘s driving style. Lance Stroll, who was sitting with him, agreed with him.

“Fernando Alonso, I like his style,” said Verstappen on who would he be rooting for if they had not competed in the races him. Stroll also took Alonso’s name when asked the same.

“Me too. I cheered for him before I became a driver myself,” said Stroll.

Max’s pick is interesting, as Alonso had previously mentioned that currently, he would not like to race Max in F1.

He’s the only one that I will not be happy to compete with: Alonso

As reported by the Independent, the Alpine driver mentioned he would not like to compete with Max right now. He stated that not many drivers in F1 can beat Verstappen in the same machinery.

“At the moment, he’s the only one that I will not be happy to maybe compete [with],” said Alonso.

“I respect Max a lot. At the moment, in the Red Bull environment with his team, with his experience there, I don’t think that many drivers can join Red Bull and beat Max. If you took Max out of Red Bull, maybe you [would] have a better chance.” said Fernando.

It is high praise for Max, as Alonso, like Verstappen, is known as a teammate killer. It is a pity that we have not seen both of them race against each other in a wheel-to-wheel battle this season often.
