Ever since the start of this season, Mercedes have been on the back foot, with their rivals, Red Bull Racing, looking convincingly ahead by quite a margin. This has consequently led to Lewis Hamilton potentially giving up his throne to title rival, Max Verstappen.

However, the upcoming race weekend at Silverstone might possibly have an entirely different script for the fans. Considering how history has played out, Hamilton could well be the favorite to win the British Grand Prix this weekend. But, how far does the homeboy think a race win is plausible?

Well, although Hamilton sounded quite eager to get himself back on the top step, he did feel that Red Bull could push a step ahead, with yet another upgrade this weekend.

What did Lewis Hamilton say?

During an interview with Lawrence Barretto, the 7-time world champion opened up that he is wary of Red Bull bringing in an upgrade package for their cars this weekend. Because such upgrades could possibly moot Mercedes’ hopes of claiming a win around Silverstone.

“Yeah, we’ve had a lot of performance taken away since the last time we were here,” Hamilton said early on Thursday.

“And yeah, I think it’s gonna be a tough one. The Red Bull’s been so strong in these past races. I’m hoping that we can potentially close the gap a little bit.”

“But, who knows, maybe they bring another upgrade this weekend! But, we will see tomorrow,” the Mercedes driver added.

Will Silverstone favor Red Bull more?

Red Bull have never been the favorites at Silverstone, which is entirely because of their poor straight-line speed. Of course, last season was an exception, as Mercedes were struggling with massive tire degradation.

However, this weekend, Red Bull are likely to surge past Mercedes quite effortlessly. Why you might ask? The fact that Red Bull managed to garner more speed through the newly designed rear wings gives them a head-start over their rivals.

Hence, Verstappen securing a pole position at Silverstone looks inevitable. But, will the reality have something entirely different to offer for the fans? Are we in for another nail-biting race weekend comprising close on-track battles? Well, let’s hope so.
