However, according to the rumor mill, there is only one destination: he is looking at Ferrari. With his unrealized dream of working with the Reds as well as 7-time champion Lewis Hamilton, it seems like the perfect opportunity. With Miami GP on the cards, Lewis Hamilton teased fans about his potential move.

When asked about potentially working with Newey, Lewis Hamilton hinted at the transfer taking place, referring to a private conversation with John Elkann during his contract negotiations.

Lewis Hamilton hints at Adrian Newey joining the Ferrari team next year

During the press conference for the Miami GP, Lewis Hamilton was asked if John Elkann promised to bring Newey on board. While Hamilton did not reveal specifics, he mentioned it was a “private conversation” leading fans to believe the Brit knows more than he reveals.

Hamilton went on to say, “This is a private conversation between us. If I made a list of people to work with, there is no doubt that Newey would be at the top of that list.” While not confirming anything, it seems the Brit is teasing Newey’s arrival at Maranello.

The prospect of Adrian Newey joining could have been the deciding factor when Hamilton deliberated his mega-money deal with Ferrari. After all, the decision to leave Mercedes, a team he won 6 championships with, may not have happened just because of money or the dream of driving a Ferrari. Knowing Newey was on board could have been the make-or-break factor, especially since his addition can be something that brings Lewis Hamilton his 8th title.

Ferrari is not the only suitor for Newey. Considering his experience and work in the sport, he will be one of the most sought-after engineers in the entire paddock. Adrian Newey’s work with Red Bull in the ground effect era is one of the leading reasons for their success.

It earned Max Verstappen his third title, but more importantly for Red Bull, it broke Mercedes’ domination of the sport. The combination of Adrian Newey and Lewis Hamilton will certainly make for a terrifying duo. A 7-time champion driving the car designed by a man with more experience than most in the sport.

At this point, however, there are only rumors of a deal taking place. With Newey effectively getting no gardening leave after his exit in 2025, he will be an important investment for any team. For now, all signs point towards a union with Ferrari.
