Lewis Hamilton has pledged his support for Ukraine amid the ongoing conflict with Russia. The 7-time world champion has been vocal on social media platform Instagram requesting funds. The conflict has gone past the two-week mark and has been widely criticized around the world.

The F1 drivers also united to send a message wearing a T-shirt saying ‘No War’; however, Hamilton could not be present due to a flight delay. The Brit has since then posted saying, “My heart is with the courageous people of Ukraine who are standing firmly with their values of freedom and peace.”

“I’m certain I’m not alone in feeling like our day to day feels heavier, and sometimes trivial, knowing this crisis is happening in the world, ” added Hamilton.

Hamilton has been vocal about social causes in the past. In 2020, he was an active supporter of the Black Lives Matter movement with the rest of the grid. Following suit, Mercedes also switched to a black livery and outfit for both drivers.

Will Lewis Hamilton Win a Record 8th Championship in 2022?

Hamilton will be hungry to win back the Drivers’ Championship after a painful loss in Abu Dhabi last year. The Mercedes driver narrowly lost out on the title after rival Verstappen overtook him on the final lap to claim his maiden Championship. The 37-year old Brit went off social media in the aftermath of the loss, but comes back afresh for the 2022 season.

Mercedes have been impressive in pre-season testing in the new W13. It is too early to predict a winner as the new regulations come into place this year. We could also see the likes of Ferrari and McLaren be added to the mix of challengers this season.

Will Hamilton create history and overtake legend Michael Schumacher’s record? Will Verstappen go on to retain his World Champion status? Well, only time will tell.
