It was another disappointing weekend for Lewis Hamilton. The Briton finished out of the points in the main race in Imola after a dismal qualifying and sprint race. He had some strong words to say when quizzed about it after the race.

However, there is still hope in the Mercedes garage that they could potentially still challenge for the title.

Lewis Hamilton has a weekend to forget at Imola

Lewis Hamilton has had a rough start to life in 2022. This weekend his start hit a new low after finishing P13 in the race on Sunday. The Briton would also finish P14 in the sprint race and qualified only P13 on Friday.

After the race, when he was quizzed about their strategy for the race, he said, “I really don’t know to be honest I really don’t think it would have made much of a difference.” He went on to add, “A weekend to forget that’s for sure,” talking about the weekend.

His dismal start to the season does not seem to let up, and he was once again outclassed by his teammate George Russell who finished in P4. Hamilton continues to struggle to get to grips with his W-13 and will have to figure it out quick.

Mercedes still aims to challenge for the title

Mercedes have seen their 7 years of domination vanish overnight in the 2022 season. They have been usurped by Ferrari and Red Bull and have been reduced to the P3 fight. However, Toto Wolff still believes that they could be challengers for the title.

After the race in Imola, Hamilton was asked to share his thoughts on Toto Wolff’s take. He said, “I’m out of the championship running for sure… but I still keep working hardest I can,” trying to remain optimistic.

Mercedes currently sits P3 in the constructor standings and Hamilton P7 in the driver standings. He clearly seems out of the running for the title and weekends like this are not going to help.
