After almost a decade years of pure domination, Mercedes have finally struggled to put together a competitive car. For a team that had won the constructors’ championship last season, they are yet to register a single win. This prompted Lewis Hamilton to ask FIA to take measures so that results are decided purely on drivers’ ability.

Lewis Hamilton missed out on the driver’s championship last year in a controversial fashion. The title race went right down to the wire when the last lap of the final race became the difference between the 1st and 2nd place holders. The Mercedes driver had hardly recovered from that loss and now this season has brought some scars of its own.

Lewis Hamilton’s call for equal cars

Ferrari and Red Bull have dominated the season so far. It would be fair to say that it has only been a Red Bull show, with some glances of brilliance from Ferrari. Every other team, including Mercedes, has failed to keep up with fresh car regulations introduced by the FIA.

While most of the teams are coping with the porpoising problems, others are just not able to deliver a reliable car. Red Bull, who have nailed the formula this time around, now see their ace driver and last year’s champion Max Verstappen sit comfortably in the 1st position with a 116-point lead over Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc.

With 6 more races to go, Lewis Hamilton is already out of the title race, sitting in 6th place with a mere 168 points.

Hamilton recently spoke about this problem and the need for more equal battles. He said, “I do watch other sports and I wish that it was just the pure ability that I have that makes all the difference.”

Hamilton called the situation to be “definitely tough, “ but clarified that he didn’t like the word “tough” because he was recently in Africa where he saw how tough it was for kids there.

“We would love to be in that battle fighting, and I wish that all the cars were a lot closer and we were all having a much better battle closer to the front,” the 7-time world champion continued.

Hamilton’s chance to land a podium finish in Singapore

Marina Bay is a circuit where Hamilton has a pretty good record. He has won the Singapore Grand Prix 4 times. In the qualifying on Saturday, the Brit was able to take P3 despite having a comparatively inferior car to his rivals.

While Hamilton hasn’t posted any win this season so far, he has had 6 podium finishes. On a track, that does not have too many straights for overtaking, the chances of him taking his 7th podium finish for the 2022 season are high.

It is worth mentioning that the weather forecast has predicted rain for the race today. So who knows, maybe Hamilton can take advantage of the conditions and probably even get a much-needed win.
