For the past year and more, Mercedes has struggled to find the pace they were accustomed to for the past eight years. The Brackley outfit grossly misinterpreted the new regulations and produced a disastrous car. However, moving on, the team introduced massive upgrades in Monaco and instantly started reaping the rewards. The race in Spain is showcasing the team’s moving in the right direction now. The Brit, in 2022, ended the most incredible streak thanks to the poor state of the car. In fact, a race win and progressive steps in the right direction over time could bring Hamilton up to Verstappen’s speed.

Allison asked and answered, “Can this car become competitive enough to win a race this year? I’d say, with a following win, yes it can. We can, if we do the right things over the remainder of this year and across the year, be in the championship fight for the following year? Even even more yes,” concluded the Mercedes technical director.
