Another Brit at his home race, Lando Norris was adored by the fans at Silverstone. However, he wished he could have performed better for them. Lando finished P4 with an impressive pace throughout the weekend. The driver was in third after the race restart, ahead of the Mercedes of Valtteri Bottas.

He lost positions on the track due to a slow pit stop, so, Lando made his frustrations known on the team radio coming out of the pit lane

“F*cking great,” Lando said when he realized he ended up behind Bottas and Alonso.

He explained the vehement reaction coming out of the pit lane, “Of course those were my emotions at the time, not too happy to come out in that position.”

Even in post-race interviews, Lando wished to have a fighting chance against the Mercedes – something that the pit stop prevented. “I would have had a chance, I reckon. I had the motivation from everyone around to go for it and push for it.” 

What could have been for Lando Norris

Lando Norris is a man on a mission; despite his major achievements over the season, he wants more.

He did initially say that the stop may have prevented a better race on home soil. “I don’t know what we could have achieved, but at least here at Silverstone in front of the fans I just would have loved that chance to fight. We did hold them off, not easily but reasonably well in the first stint. We never got within DRS.”

The 21-year-old was happy with the pace of the McLaren – that’s probably what hurts him-knowing that both he and the car had podium potential.

Explaining that the pitstop felt like forever, he said, “It does feel like a lot, yeah…At that point, all I needed was an alright pitstop and I would have come out ahead of Bottas. And then the worst thing was I came out behind Fernando, which meant I couldn’t push on the first lap at all.”

Nonetheless, he is someone who absolutely loves his team. He didn’t complain about the stop and added, “The boys have done a good job all season and they’ve made steady progress all the way throughout and the pitstops have been getting better and better, and this is my first bad pitstop I would say of the whole season.”

The British GP only proved to everyone that Lando has some unmatched potential. The race saw him break records and he currently stands third in the driver’s championship. It’s only his third season in F1, and he has many more to go – soon to be filled with championship battles.
