There are hardly any world champions in the history of the sport that finished their careers without receiving explained hate. Perhaps it is the ruthlessness of their approach or the jealousy from rival fanbases, but no one is spared. If there were ever to be an exception, Lewis Hamilton would be first on the line. Although we all know, that is far from the truth, as the Brit receives immense resentment from a plethora of fans. However, his conduct on and off the track makes many wonder why is the Brit hated by a set of fans. F1 expert Peter Windsor is among many looking for an answer to this question. However, some of his actions even confuse Windsor, especially his comments after the iconic podium in Canada.

He shared his confusion with Hamilton’s childlike behavior.

“I was a bit confused by that. Lewis saying, an honor, or thrill or cool, I don’t know. But he said, ‘podium with two world champions’ says the seven-time world champion,” Windsor mocked. Windsor then elaborated on his understanding of Hamilton’s comments and his perception of the Brit.

He said, “I think it was just the kid in Lewis coming out, wasn’t it? He was excited to be out there with these two mega-world champions. Maybe it’s the Sir Lewis. He’s got a lot of dignity and I’ve always said that he’s a really nice guy and I’ve never understood people that don’t like him or don’t rate him or whatever. I find that extraordinary because he’s a really nice guy. A cool guy! And he cares a lot about other people.”

Many would rank Verstappen above Hamilton in terms of race craft in the current scenario. However, we cannot take away all the achievements of the Brit after just one bad season. In fact, Mercedes is on the up as we speak. However, Windsor still urges Hamilton fans to manage expectations.

Lewis Hamilton and Co might be on the rise, but Max Verstappen is still out of sight

After the defining upgrade package, Mercedes is on the rise and dreaming again. However, Mercedes’ dream of catching Red Bull is still far from coming to reality, with the RB19 far superior to the W14. Realistically speaking, Mercedes can aim to beat the Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso according to Windsor.

Windsor said, “As a fan of Lewis Hamilton you can get excited because Mercedes is getting closer to Aston Martin, if you think they’re going to beat Red Bull in the near future, with the exception of an extreme situation, you’ll be disappointed.”

Two positive race results do not guarantee anything and so far we are yet to see upgrades from Aston Martin and Red Bull.
