Fernando Alonso finally saw his immaculate podium streak break in Azerbaijan yesterday. However, the result was by no means a bad one for either him or the team. Given that Ferrari finally found the pace they were looking for, P4 was a significant result for the Spaniard. Also, to give him company was an old friend who has earned quite the infamy in the world of F1. As the duo was later seen catching up with Aston Martin boss Lawrence Stroll, things were bound to get spicy. Fans certainly had a field day cooking stories on what the conversation must have gone like.

Lewis Hamilton started in P5 ahead of Alonso and the first few laps made for some great action between the two. It certainly was a treat for the fans of the duo’s rivalry from yesteryear. Alonso kept himself on Hamilton’s tail, but the wily Ol’ Briton kept himself within the DRS range of Carlos Sainz ahead to make use of the extra pace. However, greater tire degradation saw Hamilton pit early, which gave Alonso the P5 which he later converted into P4 after an audacious overtake on Sainz in Turn 6 on Lap 14.

Briatore was later found guilty of race-fixing.

As the race in Baku progressed to the 19th lap, Lance Stroll understeered and went wide in Turn 16. This gave Hamilton the chance to overtake him, which he very graciously took. Before that, during Lap 16, Lance had hit the wall, taking minor damage to his front wing.
