Some interactions are unmissable, and the wholesome exchange between Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel was one. The world champions are fierce competitors on track but equally humble off of it. They showcased just that when Vettel once produced a wholesome moment between himself and Hamilton.

The incident is from the 2019 Mexican GP when Vettel was driving for Scuderia Ferrari. Despite pitting earlier and driving on older tires, Hamilton maintained the lead and won the race. Vettel finished runner-up despite the tire advantage and he appreciated this moment of quality in the post-race interview.

Hamilton nudged Vettel during the interview and, following the interruption, Vettel shared his thoughts on Hamilton’s tire management. The Ferrari pilot chose an interesting line of comparison to appreciate the Mercedes man’s tire management.

The 4-time world champion began with, “We really tried everything. We tried the two and the one-stop.” After Hamilton nudged him, he said, “But he just got massively lucky, you know. Pitting the tires so early, not hitting a cliff.”

“I mean, he’s like a… if you’re a woman on this planet and you have this guy giving you a massage like he’s treating the tires, it’s just pure magic. Really well done to him that he made the tires last, so that made the difference.”

Only Vettel can make such hilarious comparisons to talk about tire degradation. The two outspoken world champions and are fierce competitors, but there is always mutual respect. However, Vettel is right about Hamilton’s tire management as the world champion showcased in a post from 2020.

Humble Lewis Hamilton does not shy away from getting his hands dirty

Back in 2020, the Briton had to make the longest pit stop of his career. This stop took an entire minute because it was Hamilton himself, changing the tire.

Hamilton’s Mercedes EQC’s tire blew out, and the Brit shared photos of himself sorting out the issue. The then six-time world champion also mentioned the pleasure of driving a car that does not need refueling.
