A driver, such as Hamilton, has witnessed the massive leaps the sport has taken first-hand in his 16 years of racing. The technological leaps in the sport make the cars the most advanced machines on the planet. The advancements also have had their fair share of impact on the drivers as well.

The constant changes have forced all drivers to adapt to the new cars and technologies. To drive such advanced vehicles, one should possess a certain degree of knowledge about the vehicle. However, not all aspects of an F1 car can be easily understood or explained. Hamilton’s post-qualifying interview at the Italian GP is proof of exactly that.

He said, “I just failed so badly trying to explain aerodynamics. They asked me about aerodynamics and I was trying to explain and I realized I’m really not an aerodynamicist.”

To soften the blow, the interviewer even said, “It’s okay you got more than enough world championships to make up for that.”

Evidently, the complexity of the car manufacturing aspect of F1 is not lost on Hamilton. This is exactly why the Brit appreciated Red Bull’s CTO Adrian Newey, who also is a brilliant aerodynamicist and had built multiple championship-winning cars.

When asked about Red Bull’s impressive season, he said, “It’s more that I’m impressed with Adrian Newey and his team. I think it is a great team.”
