George has coped brilliantly, following his transfer from Williams Racing. The Brit replaced Valtteri Bottas and has earned the Silver Arrows’ only pole position of the season so far. George Russell also leads Lewis Hamilton in the driver’s championship so far. Seeing this, a lot of fans expected a similar dynamic between the two drivers that Hamilton and Nico Rosberg had in the later stages of their partnership.

However, that is not the case. In a recent media briefing, George opened up about working with Lewis Hamilton as well as learning from the “GOAT”.

George said, “I’m definitely enjoying being teammates with Lewis. Having that opportunity going up against the Greatest of All Time is such a fantastic opportunity for me to develop and show what I can do. We do have a really strong relationship.”

George also mentioned, “We’ve built a really good bond throughout this season. I can’t see that changing”.

Russell and Hamilton will both be looking to further strengthen their bond on the racetrack and start winning races for the Silver Arrows. George also had a torrid Singapore GP and will be looking to put that behind him.

George Russell does not expect Mercedes to beat rivals in Saturday’s qualifying

Mercedes topped the wet FP2 session in Suzuka. However, despite their dominance, both their drivers played down the chance of getting pole for Sunday’s race. Russell expected Saturday’s qualifying to be a dry session as opposed to the wet session Mercedes topped.

After the FP, when asked about his expectations for the qualifying, George said, “No idea because we think it’s going to be dry tomorrow. I think we’ll be fighting as always for the top six positions. I hope we can have a shot at something better, but I truly don’t know.”

Eventually, Russell and Hamilton ended up finishing qualifying in P8 and P6. Seeing that there is a high change of rain during the race, the odds are certainly in Mercedes’s favor.
