Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton crashed with each other at the Italian Grand Prix. The incident took both drivers driver out of the race after the Red Bull of Verstappen crashed on top of Hamilton’s Mercedes. The stewards gave the Dutch driver a 3-place grid penalty for the Russian Grand Prix. Haas team principal Guenther Steiner believes the stewards had to do something about the incident.

As reported by rtl.de, the German mentioned that the collisions between the title rivals have become quite frequent. So the stewards had to intervene and stop before the becomes too much.

“The stewards had to do something because it was just too much – at some point, it will be too much. You just have to be careful that the fight doesn’t get too hard.” Steiner said.

Many drivers and F1 personnel believe that the crash between Lewis and Max was a racing incident.

Lewis Hamilton mentioned the stewards came to the right decision, and he was proud of them. The Mercedes driver stated that the safety of the drivers is paramount.

“In the end, I am proud of the stewards. I think it is important for us we promote driver safety and that strict rules apply,” said Hamilton.

“I don’t think I’ve ever been hit in the head by any other car. That’s quite a shock to me. If you look at the pictures, you can see that my head is really going far forward.

I’ve been racing for a long, long time. I’m grateful to be still here, I feel blessed.” said Hamilton.

Both championship rivals have previously collided with each other in Silverstone when Hamilton took out Verstappen from the race.
