Haas has been in a contract limbo with Mick Schumacher for a while now. The German driver has not been announced as a Haas driver for 2023 yet, and as the days go by, this becomes even more unlikely to happen. However, Haas has been warned that they should not wait up for the likes of Lewis Hamilton to drive for them next season.

German racing driver, Hans-Joachim Stuck, has issued a stern warning to Haas that they need to sort out their Schumacher contract situation soon. The former Brabham driver claims to be perplexed as to why Guenther Steiner has not offered the German a contract. In doing so, Stuck has taken a pointed dig at the American team.

Talking to Eurosport.de, He said, “I don’t understand why nobody has secured it yet.”

He then went on to explain why Haas should not linger on further before signing Schumacher. “Mick would be the best option for Steiner because he won’t get a driver like Lewis Hamilton.”

Schumacher’s chances of securing a seat for 2023 don’t look too good either. According to an inside source at Haas, the team isn’t impressed by the way he conducted himself at the 2022 Austrian Grand Prix.

The Austrian Grand Prix’s sprint race could be considered as Schumacher’s breakout race. He battled hard with 7-time champion Lewis Hamilton but was eventually let down by teammate Kevin Magnussen. However, it would appear that the team wasn’t too impressed by the German at the race.

While speaking to Motorsport-Total, Haas’ chief race engineer Ayao Komatsu said, “Mick was behind Kevin and that frustrated him.”

He explained, “His focus in the Sprint race wasn’t the right one. We talked about that afterwards. We talked before the Sprint race about how we would do it as a team. But what he did after that wasn’t great, and what he said after that wasn’t great either.”
