Daniel Ricciardo is content with P6 in the sprint race

After a solid qualifying on Friday, Ricciardo faced a mechanical issue in FP2. As a result, his first outing on the dry Imola track was the sprint race. He started the race in a blistering fashion and jumped into P5 after his move on Kevin Magnussen. However, Ferrari’s pace meant Sainz overtook the Australian in the end.

Speaking about the sprint race, Ricciardo said, “I didn’t really know what to expect for the Sprint because we haven’t really had dry running this weekend. With the issue in practice this morning, it was really just a ‘go out and see what we got’ situation. I felt like I had a good start, so I was looking ahead.”

He did have contact with Magnussen early on, but fortunately, there was no damage inflicted. The McLaren driver also revealed he struggled with the tires in the end, but a P5 and P6 certainly pleased him.

He added, “I tried to settle into a rhythm, and I think we struggled a bit towards the end with the tyres but other than that it was pretty good and we scored some points.”
