Charles Leclerc has been Ferrari’s golden boy ever since his debut for the team back in 2019. Despite being a newcomer in F1, he beat his teammate and 4-time world champion, Sebastian Vettel, two years in a row. However, for the 2021 season, Carlos Sainz made his switch to Ferrari, and went on to get the better of the Monegasque in the driver’s standings that year.

Even though the two drivers are extremely competitive, they share an excellent working relationship. Speaking about the season so far, as F1 enters its summer break, Leclerc listed the biggest advantages of having Sainz as a teammate.

He said, “The good thing with Carlos is that we both also have the same feeling in the car. We need all of the same things in the car… which also gives me the confidence that we will get better”

He was further posed with the question as to what exactly gives him the confidence. To which the Monegasque replied, “The way we work. If we work as well as we did in the last 2 years on other weaknesses, I am confident that we’ll overcome them.

The Ferrari duo was initially leading the title battle. However, after a few poor strategies and reliability issues, they have been left behind by Red Bull. In the meantime, 2 Ferrari drivers have worked well together attempting to catch up to Verstappen and Perez.

Sainz solidifies team spirit and tows Charles Leclerc to the French GP pole

Both the Ferrari drivers came into the season harboring title hope and neither of them refuse to give up. However, the two worked together in perfect harmony at the French GP to help Leclerc attain pole. The Spaniard gave Leclerc a perfect slipstream in Q3 allowing him to outpace Verstappen by one almost two-tenths of a second.

Speaking on this perfect example of racing teamwork, Carlos Sainz said, “I’m happy Charles got the pole position, that we are out there as a team.”

He went on to add, “I think we received a lot of critics this year about strategy and today just shows we are a very solid team, that we get on very well and there’s a very good atmosphere and that we are willing to help each other as much as possible.”
