It all started when news of a mysterious figure at Swift’s Madrid concert emerged. While most fans debated who it was, it didn’t take long for F1 fans to remember George Russell’s iconic T-pose, which the mysterious figure also used.

When Mercedes posted about the incident on Instagram, Russell hopped into the comments, with a subtle nod to his iconic pose from 2023. While most fans laughed it off, others were quick to remember another driver on the grid, one with a rumored history with Swift: Fernando Alonso. This was in obvious reference to Fernando Alonso and Taylor Swift’s rumored dating history from 2023.

Fans think Fernando Alonso won’t be happy with George Russell’s joke

Fans thought Alonso would not take the gesture kindly, going on to say, “Fernando about to run amok,” referring to the rumored romance between Alonso and Swift, from April 2023. While there was no confirmation from either side, fans were quick to hold on to it, even though the singer went on to date NFL star Travis Kelce.

Another one joked that George Russell would need to watch out on the track, as Alonso would come after him. Explained in a headline, the fan said, “BREAKING NEWS: GEORGE RUSSELL NEEDS BODYGUARDS ON THE 2024 CANADIAN GRAND PRIX TO PREVENT FERNANDO ALONSO CRASHING INTO HIM.”

What they agreed on was that Fernando Alonso would not take this gesture kindly, saying, “I don’t think Alonso would like this,” as well as, “Alonso disliked.” Apart from little hints and subtle references from the Aston Martin camp, there was no official confirmation of the pair being together.

A fan or two even denied Taylor Swift’s presence on F1, writing, “Please no Taylor Swift here please,” and even calling out the admin of the mercedesamgf1 page, writing, “admin have you perhaps missed your calling as a comedian?” To everyone’s surprise, the latter comment had around 2.9k likes. Crazy right?

In its entirety, Mercedes’ small Instagram post gave a fun break from the chaos in Monaco. From rain, hail, and finally a sunny finish, the meme was a welcome break between free practice sessions.
