One of the biggest controversies in the recent history of the sport rocked Formula 1 last year. The FIA fined Red Bull with a sporting and financial penalty after being found in breach of the cost cap regulations. What ensued after was a public calling out by fans, the media, and the other teams alike. Chief amongst the detractors was McLaren, but more specifically, their CEO, Zak Brown.

When Red Bull was facing the brunt of the whole cost cap saga, Brown was hot on their heels, publicly calling out the Milton-Keynes-based outfit. However, as it turns out, Brown may also have been working behind the scenes in a bid to derail Red Bull, financially at least. Recently, Bulls boss Christian Horner was quoted as saying, “These things get used by your rivals. We had one of them contacting our sponsors and partners making suggestions that we would be bringing their brands into disrepute. That was just underhand,” while revealing how one of their rivals tried poaching their sponsors.

Even though Horner himself did not divulge the name of the team, fans on Twitter had a pretty good guess already lined up. As soon as the tweet went viral, fans rushed to the social media platform to share their reactions.

Fans react as Zak Brown becomes suspect number 1 in Red Bull controversy

Brown had been one of the biggest mouths when the whole Red Bull cost cap saga unfolded. And in line with those antics, fans believe it was indeed Brown who had tried to mess with the Bulls’ sponsors and partners. One fan even commented, “It has to be Zak Brown. He’s more focused about talking with the other teams sponsor than make a good car.”
