Formula 1 is a brutally unforgiving sport and every minuscule mistake is punished. We often see this aspect of the sport during the qualifying sessions and the races. However, this brutal nature isn’t limited to the track. We often see F1 entities needing to answer for their actions off track as well, based on their actions or statements. Well, thanks to Mercedes’ state in the last year and a half and recent comments from Toto Wolff, we saw this unforgiving nature of the sport. The fans tore the Austrian boss to shreds after his “delusional” comments.

No matter who you are and what you have achieved, once you fall from the high chair, there is no one to catch you. However, Toto Wolff was delusional enough to assume there was, especially among the fans. One cannot generalize a large group of people. Although, when the Austrian boss tried to do so, he horribly missed the general theme of the comments the team received during this difficult period.

As quoted on Twitter, Wolff said, “It’s always great to see the fan support. I think we’re one of the few teams that doesn’t get a lot of negative comments when the car is not good. Contrary to many others, I think we have such a strong supporters group that cheers for us, suffers with us. Hopefully, we’ll be coming back to the days where there’s lots to celebrate.”

Now, we are not saying Toto Wolff is completely wrong, but the fans have not always been kind to the team and specifically to him as well. So when Wolff made the general statement, he received a brutal reality check.

Toto Wolff received a brutal reality check from the Mercedes fandom after his delusionally optimistic comments

The Austrian boss’s optimism was quashed instantly as the fans on Twitter laughed, mocked, and annihilated him for his comments. The fans could not believe Wolff assumed in the past year and a half when the car was dreadful, the team still received only positive comments.

The fans exactly mocked this delusion and also suggested they fix the W14 as well.

Some Mercedes fans hilariously admitted how they’re the worst while some argue that the boss is banned from checking social media. Whatever the case may be, the Austrian boss definitely has some unfounded optimism toward the fanbase.
