Fernando Alonso and Sebastian Vettel have had some interesting battles throughout their career. And it seems the two world champions can still get into each other’s nerves. During the driver’s briefing in Spielberg, Alonso brought up an incident that he did not agree with. And after a point during the explanation, Vettel grew tired of listening and walked out of the briefing.

The penalty Alonso received in Canada still bothers him. And according to journalist Michael Schmidt, the briefings ever since Canada often see Alonso deliver a monologue. The monologues from The Alpine man are about the penalty in Canada which Alonso believes was incorrect.

The discussion in Spielberg stretched out, and Vettel just walked out of the briefing.

Schmidt narrated, “The whole thing started, as it seems to always be the case now, with a monologue from Alonso, who takes every opportunity now to show that the penalty he got in Canada was actually wrong.”

“And whenever he sees someone doing the same thing but not being penalized, he shows this case and explains it in epic breadth and then tries to get confirmation from race control that he was wrongly penalized.”

He added, “And that went on for a relatively long time and it all went in circles and at some point Vettel just snapped and left because they didn’t make any progress.”

However, the walking out has earned Vettel a fine worth $25,000. All this talk of penalty earned Vettel one as well.

The penalty from Canada that Fernando Alonso is still upset about

Stewards handed Alonso a five-second penalty in the penultimate lap of the Canadian GP, dropping him to P9 from P7. The Spaniard was guilty of weaving according to the officials to block Valtteri Bottas from overtaking.

“Between turns 10 and 12, on the penultimate lap of the race, car 14 [Alonso] made repeated changes of direction to defend against car 77 [Bottas] who had to lift at one point and briefly lost momentum,” read the verdict. However, Alonso is clearly still in disagreement.

Penalty or no penalty, safe to assume Vettel has had enough of the same discussion!
