Formula 1 pre-season testing was a much-awaited session for many. While authorities did not stream it live for the viewers, constant updates kept making the news. Fans got a glimpse of what the new season cars look like and what they can expect from each team, including Alpine.

Last year, Alpine finished P5 on the table with Esteban Ocon managing a win in Hungary and Alonso finishing on the podium in Qatar.

As the constructor has been P5 on the table for the past three seasons, the fan fraternity expects to see more out of them. With a shaky start, they hope they can catch up with their competitors in time.

In a recent Q & A session on Sky Sports, Ted Kravitz stated, “Let’s start with Alpine, who were last year’s fifth-fastest team,  but they’ve sadly taken a real dip in form. There’s questions over reliability, they also had bouncing problems, and the car just doesn’t seem to have inherent pace.” 

“I think it’s too early to write them off, but they were certainly very disappointed as a team. With two quality drivers like Esteban Ocon and Fernando Alonso, they can’t afford a bad car because they’re not lacking anywhere else.” 

Fernando Alonso will wait to see how Alpine performs in Bahrain

Fan-favorite Fernando Alonso dominated his teammate. Despite the issues with the car, the two-time world champion still backed his team and stressed the need to not jump to any conclusions until the season starts.

He said, “Until we go to Bahrain, we don’t know even what the others did as well on the engine side and how much progress everyone did this winter.”

“There is new fuel, so we all lost performance with the new fuel, and we all try to recover that. So, let’s see in Bahrain.”

Overall, the pre-season testing was a roller coaster ride for the fans. No wonder they await a very exciting season ahead, which is expected to see the championship fight becoming more intense than ever.

Teams have modeled the 2022 season cars keeping the new guidelines in mind. These new rules have been set up, particularly, to promote better racing and provide a better experience for everyone involved.
