The driver market has gone into a frenzy ever since Sebastian Vettel announced his retirement from his sport. This was followed by Fernando Alonso vacating the Alpine seat in favor of Aston Martin and Oscar Piastri denying any plans of driving for the French constructors next season, reportedly choosing McLaren for next season.

This means Daniel Ricciardo might be back at the doorstep of Alpine for a drive in 2023; after McLaren might end the Australian’s deal, to make way for Piastri next season.

Ricciardo, who previously drove for the team for a couple of seasons, might be potentially looking to return for 2023. Team principal, Otmar Szafnauer, has kept his options open concerning the second Alpine seat.

He told Autosport, “I think what we need to focus on is, like I say, the plans that we have for the next 89-88 races”

“We’ve got to make sure that we complement that plan with the best driver that we can, and there are some options out there for us. And we put the best driver in next to Esteban [Ocon], so that we can move forward towards what we’ve been planning.”

He was also quoted by the Spanish media, calling Daniel Ricciardo a “good recommendation” for next season.

However, Ricciardo wants to stay put at the Woking team. In the meantime, fans will have to wait and see how this entire fiasco pans out.

Daniel Ricciardo gives his take on his time at McLaren amid sacking news

Daniel Ricciardo has had a turbulent time at McLaren ever since he arrived at the team at the start of the 2021 season. His second season at the team has not seen much improvement which has led the team to reportedly sack the Australian in favor of 2021 F2 champion and compatriot Oscar Piastri.

However, reflecting on his time at McLaren Ricciardo gave his take and said, “Of course, I want to have a better season”.

He went on to add, “It’s a work in progress, but it’s not as bad as it always seems, for sure.”

All this comes amid the news of his potential sacking as the F1 world waits to see how the saga shapes up. If the rumors are true and if he wants to continue in the sport, the Australian will hope to find a seat soon.
