Ever since Esteban Ocon’s Monaco podium, Alpine looked to be just in touch with the Top 4 teams. However, everyone upgraded and the gap to the Top 4 increased. Now Alpine is served with a new headache named McLaren. Out of nowhere, the upgraded McLaren at the British GP was the second fastest car. The Papaya team scored 30 points at Silverstone and leapfrogged Mclaren in the standings. 

As people say in F1 “If you’re not moving forward, You’re going backward”. The same goes development-wise for Alpine. As a result of this dire situation, Pierre Gasly urges his team to bring the upgrade while ranting out his frustration about the same situation. The Frenchman hopes for the picture of the Grid to look different in due time.

It’s just this and that coming together, and unfortunately we don’t get any reward for our work. That’s frustrating, of course. There is no secret. Despite Pierre Gasly’s frustration, Otmar Szafnauer understands what’s going on and remains optimistic. The Alpine TP trusts his team to get the car up there where it deserves as he reveals the upcoming upgrades.

Alpine has made progress this year. It’s just that the people around them have made even more progress. Nonetheless, the podium in Monaco was a sign that the car and the team have what it takes. Szafnauer advised that a major upgrade is incoming before the Midseason break. This with the other small bits and floor should theoretically make the car faster.

According to Formula1.com, Otmar Szafnauer said “Our upgrades have worked this year and there is another significant one coming before the break. So, I hope that will too. The swing of relative competitiveness does that kind of stuff. I’m looking forward to our next one. There is an upgrade as well in Hungary, not that big, but there is one, there is a floor in Spa. Putting that all together we should go well.”
