The British Grand Prix saw the first of three sprint qualifying sessions this year that the sport has introduced to make races more exciting. And the format change surely did what it was supposed to do, as fans got to witness intense F1 action on all three days. However, Carlos Sainz believes there is room for even more improvement and suggested a drastic reveal from the teams to make the sport more exciting for fans.

The Spaniard started off his weekend of a positive note, finished Friday’s qualifying in P8. Unfortunately, he fell down to P11 in the sprint race and then started the main race in P10.

Carlos Sainz suggests strategy reveals to make F1 “more exciting”

While most critics of the sprint race format had only suggested actions that the FIA should take, Sainz took a different route. He brought up the idea of F1 teams revealing their strategies on Friday and Sunday.

As quoted by GPFans, he said, “Maybe we could reveal the fuel loads to make it a bit more exciting for the fans to watch, the compound we are using, basically we have nothing to hide already in Friday on Saturday because there’s parc ferme.

“It would be nice for the fans to see a bit what we are trying to do on Saturday morning with our race pace.” 

Sainz doesn’t believe pole should to go the driver who starts well or wins a race

Like many of his colleagues, the Ferrari driver believes that pole position should be awarded in the qualifying and not sprint quali.

“So, I am not too uncomfortable with the sprint quali. I just think the pole position should be given to the fastest guy in quali, the pole position should be still an award and a statistic for the future.

“It should be for the fastest guy in quali and not for a guy who does a good start or wins a race. That’s my only thing,” said Sainz.
