Sebastian Vettel went through his own villain arc in Formula 1. Back in his Red Bull days, when he was winning everything, people just waited for him to stop. But as the years went by, the 4x champion blossomed into more than just a winning machine. And by the time he hung his racing helmet up last year, he had left behind a solid legacy in the sport. That’s not all that he left behind, though. During his illustrious career, he appealed to the fans through his empathy, humor, personality, and sheer speed. So naturally, fans weren’t ready to let go of the Weltmeister.

Every F1 fan, since Vettel finished his last race at Abu Dhabi last year, is in a state of utter denial. That being said, the German’s comments during the Race of Champions weekend in Sweden may have just proved that fans weren’t living in a fool’s paradise after all!

Vettel has recently come out with heaps of admiration for the sport of Rallying. He said during the RoC press conference, “It’s a great sport. There’s the racing element and the skill, but it’s many different [to F1] in many ways. I think the drivers are great and I don’t think they get the limelight they deserve.” But it isn’t what he said during the conference that has excited Vettel fans.

Sebastian Vettel fans react as the retired 4x champ teases a full-time racing comeback

A clip from the RoC weekend has gone viral where it was revealed that Vettel joked, “You didn’t really think I’d retire, did you?” The commentator then also went on to reveal that the ex-Ferrari driver was very keen on trying his hand at Rallying. As soon as the clip went viral on Twitter, fans stormed the platform to share their reactions.

Vettel’s biggest rival, Lewis Hamilton had said during the German’s final press conference, “We’re seeing other drivers coming back so I’m sitting here accepting that it’s your last race but you’ll be back. Formula 1 has a way of sucking you back in and we’ve noticed that from so many other drivers.” 

Vettel’s comeback is just conjecture at this point. However, the reactions of the fans show exactly what Sebastian means to them. As soon as the word got out, the fans went into a complete frenzy at the slightest prospect of seeing the 4x champ donning his race suit, full-time again.
