The effervescent and evergreen Spaniard, Fernando Alonso, is not leaving Formula 1 anytime soon. The 41-year-old has been showcasing excellent pace for Alpine in the current season. The best example of that was his qualifying performance at the Canadian GP because of which he secured a front row.

Because of his incredible pace for the French team, the Spaniard was set for a contract extension. However, the two-time world champion shocked the world of F1 and decided to switch teams. Alonso will be an Aston Martin driver from 2023 onwards. Aston Martin currently sits ninth, compared to Alpine in fourth, in the constructors’ standings.

A confusing decision and a step down for most, but most don’t know or aren’t aware of Aston Martin’s project for the 2023 season. Aston Martin is building a state-of-the-art and future-ready headquarters. The headquarters will be equipped for manufacturing and engineering and will feature a wind tunnel as well.

Apart from the infrastructure, the British car manufacturer also has an incredible team to utilize the facility. The head of this team is the talented British engineer Dan Fallows. Follows, formally of Red Bull, is an aerodynamicist and the technical director at Aston Martin. At Red Bull, Fallows saw the incredible championship-winning era from 2010 to 2013 and led the team into the hybrid era.

After spending a decade at the Milton-Keynes outfit, Fallows moved to Aston Martin for the 2022 season. The first season has not gone according to plan as the team plays catch-up at the back of the grid. However, Fallows’ recent tweet is causing quite a stir in the F1 fandom.

Dan Fallows’ tweet might explain why Fernando Alonso joined Aston Martin

The tweet that is generating all the hype around Aston Martin is a throwback picture of Fallows himself and a former Red Bull partnership. The partnership features world champion Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo as teammates on the podium with Fallows. Fallows captioned the photos, “2017 throwback. More of these to come but in a different colour scheme.”

The Brit will oversee the production of the 2023 Aston Martin car and it’s his expertise that coupled with the tweet that is giving fans hope.

Now Alonso’s move to a team that is currently doing poorly makes a lot more sense to the fans as well. It will be interesting to see if this partnership is a masterstroke or a hit and a miss for Aston Martin next season.
