Only the most ruthless and dedicated drivers make it to the top of the racing world, which is Formula 1. These drivers, from the start, are conditioned to become unforgiving individuals and to keep their best interests first. This is exactly why we don’t see a lot of friendships among teammates on the grid. However, Lando Norris has set out to change this narrative. The Brit has been at McLaren since 2019 and has been partnered with three drivers so far. He has gotten along with all, Carlos Sainz, Daniel Ricciardo, and now even Oscar Piastri. Norris has been credited for this healthy working relationship with his teammates because of his “unique” quality.

The Brit might’ve made some insensitive remarks about Ricciardo’s struggles with McLaren. However, there is still no love lost between the two. We are already aware of the CarLando bromance. Now, the Brit is getting along with Piastri as well. This is all down to Norris’s characteristics and kindness according to TP Andrea Stella, which he discussed on the F1 Nation podcast.

When asked how and if Norris and Piastri compliment each other, Stella said, “Yeah, I can confirm! Even seen from the inside, they work very well together. They go along well together. I think that is true at personal and this is true at professional level. Let me add that with Lando, that’s not difficult because even though Oscar, Daniel, Carlos, they’re phenomenal people, phenomenal individual, they all went along very well with Lando and I can see why. Lando’s characteristics at personal and human levels, his values, are unique.”

Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri share the same racing brain

All teams are heavily reliant on their drivers’ feedback about the car to get them in the best possible position. Although no two drivers are the same and their feedbacks vary based on their preference. This is where both Norris and Piastri share a brain.

Stella revealed, “In terms of working together, there’s an interesting aspect we have noticed that Oscar and Lando tend to provide very similar feedback. Not only like offline in debriefings. But even when you do free practice 1, first run, the car comes back you hear the driver talking in the radio and sometimes they just use the same words. So for us, as a team, it is very useful.”

This is a perfect scenario for McLaren as they can make unified changes to the car and make it stick to both drivers. Although it will be interesting to see who comes out with the upgrades based on the feedback. We will get the first glimpse in Austria after McLaren introduces their first upgrade package.
