Jim Ryan is retiring from PlayStation

Recently, SIE announced that Jim Ryan will be retiring from the company after serving 30 long years. He will be leaving the company after March 2024. As of now, there is no official confirmation of who is going to be his permanent successor.

But till the company finds out the perfect fit for the puzzle, the responsibilities will temporarily be assumed by Hiroki Totoki. Totoki is the CFO and COO of Sony Group Corporation, who will be serving as the interim CEO of SIE from April 1, 2024, onwards.

This is what Ryan had to say about his long relationship with PlayStation: “I will leave having been privileged to work on products that have touched millions of lives across the world; PlayStation will always be part of my life, and I feel more optimistic than ever about the future of SIE.”

What is very interesting about the timing is that the first PlayStation holds a record of 22.6 million units sold in FY98. And Sony is aiming to break the record with PS5 in FY24. If this happens, it will be a career high and no better way to mark Jim Ryan’s send off.

He was the main man behind expanding PlayStation’s realm to Europe. Since 1994, Ryan has served in different positions at SIE, both in the American and European branches.
