Who would have thought Nintendo Switch’s N64 wireless controller had extra hidden buttons on the top? Yet that’s exactly what a recent image that’s been making the rounds in the community suggests. The promo image reveals some details about the controller. It features share and home buttons on the top of the device alongside a USB-C charging port and a sync button. It also features four LED lights that indicate the user’s player number.

However, the ZL button is not visible on the top of the controller. It could be hidden on the rear of the controller, as Nintendo has not revealed the rear side yet. Well, it makes complete sense, as it would be quite uncomfortable and awkward to reach while holding the central analog stick.

N64 and Mega Controller are on the way
Above all, there is also a Mode button on the controller. This one is super curious as it was only included on the 6 button Mega Drive and it allows users to switch between three or six-button modes easily without any hassle.
However, it is hard to tell if the controller will be able to support force feedback without any separate Rumble Pak. According to some reports, some of the Nintendo 64 titles will run at 50HZ rather than the usual 60HZ, particularly in Europe.
Genesis controller, which is planned especially to launch alongside the new Switch Online, also has a similar button addition with negligible changes. Not only this, but previous controllers that have been re-released again for Switch Online also had some extra buttons added.
This includes R and L for NES and ZL and ZR for the SNES. According to rumors, an expansion pack will also be introduced to add all the selection of games from each system. Special controllers will be released as well for each system at $49.99 / €49.99 / £39.99 each.
