Following the amount of love, Mortal Kombat became one of the highest-selling action video games with the franchise becoming one of the highest gross media banners. Mortal Kombat’s inspiration was seen in comic books, card games, animated television series, live-action set-ups and big screens as well.

Recently, Simon Mcquid, the director of the previous film on Mortal Kombat spoke about making a grand return of the franchise as a film. Following the news, he announced another majorly exciting aspect of the movie that blew fans’ minds. Fans seemed crazy excited as soon as the news hit the media. 

Johnny Cage’s character is the new talk of the town

Johnny Cage in Mortal Kombat became a fan favorite since its release. Making an appearance in 1992’s arcade-based Mortal Kombat, Cage attracted a lot of attention alongside Liu Kang and Raiden. Cage’s personality featured similar to an action movie star with a deep background in martial arts. Johnny Cage seemed like a character who prioritized his image for which he maintains his cool most of the time.

With the news of a new movie by Simon Mcquid, fans were excited to know the actor playing Hinny Cage’s character.

Recently, the team announced the name of popular ‘The Boys’ star Karl Urban as the new Johnny Cage. Urban was previously seen in big banner movies like the Star Trek franchise. He also appeared in the second and third movies of Peter Jackson’s The Lord of The Rings banner. Karl Urban’s appearance as Johnny Cage is speculated to be an apt adaptation of the video game’s character Cage. 

Gorrier and Brutal: HBO’s Mortal Kombat shined 

Fans are well acquainted with the amount of violence and brutalities Mortal Kombat portrayed as a video game. This game’s finishing moves that directly kill the enemy without knocking them out became a popular USP of the franchise. Initially, Mortal Kombat presented realistic sprites and palette swapping for character creation. However, Midway Games’ bankruptcy changed the scenario as NeatherRealm Studios started working on further projects. 

When Simon McQuoid announced a film based on Mortal Kombat, fans were excited. Gossip focused on whether film can keep the game’s gory essence intact on the big screen. However, Mcquid’s movie seemed to have much appreciation for its grittier and gorier take on the Mortal Kombat story. Released during the pandemic, this film ranked as one of the top-featured movies on HBO Max since its debut day on the streaming platform.
