They are digging through Starfield’s art and wondering what this game could have been and how much Bethesda removed from it. One such thing is the inclusion of pets. It looks like Starfield once had pets, but not anymore. Where did they go though?

What happened to the pets in the world of Starfield?

Starfield is a huge game, and even though it’s not as flawless as Bethesda’s other titles, it’s still their largest. Fans of Bethesda are doing with it what fans of Bethesda often do with these games: exploring every nook and cranny of this world and finding every piece of hidden secret.

But some are on the lookout for something else altogether. They are busy going through every city and every single planet in this game in hopes of finding a pet. A cat or a dog—it can be anything; they just want to pet an animal and maybe give them a home in their ship. But that’s not happening, as pets are not part of Starfield’s world.

The weird thing is that some pieces of Starfield’s artwork have shown pets roaming around with the game’s protagonist. What happened to them? Well, the answer is pretty simple and straightforward: They went extinct.

This theory is proven by the fact that players can find boxes of dog food around the game, mentioning how they went extinct; hence, dog food works as a source of health for the main character.

Why are pets important, though?

Pets are not important to the game, but they are good to have. Many modern games allow players to own a pet or just interact with random cats and dogs in the game world. This is just the kind of luxury gamers have come to expect from triple-A games of this generation.

If they are not in the game, then it’s not a big deal, but they’re being in the game would have made it much better.
