The group has come forward to confess their story. Many individuals and well-known names in the eSports scene have taken this opportunity to call out G2. Some fans and followers are speculating that these callouts are an elaborate tactic to disrupt the group’s form for the upcoming big matches.
G2 was called out by “the best player in the world” of CS:GO
G2 Esports, formerly known as Gamers2, is a pro gaming group located in Berlin, Germany. The group was created by Carlos “ocelote” Rodriguez, back in November 2013. G2 has a reputation in eSports scenes of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Hearthstone, Rocket League, Rainbow Six, Apex Legends, and Halo. They also organize and host eSports tournaments.
On December 18, 2022, G2 was caught up in a massive controversy as Vister posted a picture of the group posing with a fan who is holding a large Russian flag in front of them. Vister wrote “Shame” in the caption of the image, implying that the group should be ashamed of this action.
This tweet caught the eye of pro player S1mple, who is considered one of the best players of CS:GO. He retweeted saying, “Hey @G2esports there is 1 piece of s**t and 5 players that I have a lot of respect for but they can easily decide to do this picture or no, this is not special military operation this is YOU against EVIL, it’s like in a GAME, you decide your OUTCOME”
Group Manager argues innocence
The manager of the group confessed that they were truly innocent. They had no idea that the fan was about to do something like this before it was too late. When Stepan Shulga intimated this incident, the manager G2 Peca said, “Stepan, my friend, I 100% agree with you. Players were unaware of the flag, and the picture was taken before they realized it. We do not support any acts of aggression or war, and we hope everyone sees this as a mistake and does not have it take away from the great game we had.”
Vister himself was put under a lot of scrutiny, as there was speculation against him floating around. He was accused of trying to disqualify the G2 team just so the FaZe clan gets a chance in the CS:GO finals. He brought up some questionable takes about the current international political environment, saying he just “cannot stay away”.
