Caleb Plant has seen his boxing career record rejuvenate after he defeated Illinois’ Trevor McCumby via a 9th-round knockout last month in Las Vegas. Now, he is gunning for the rest of the competition in the super middleweight division to eventually get a chance to avenge his loss to the king of the division Canelo Alvarez. And guess what? Edgar Berlanga is on top of his list!

Like Plant, former No. 1 contender ‘The Chosen One’ collected his first career loss at the hands of ‘Cinnamon’ in September in a one-sided affair. Since then, Berlanga and Plant have exchanged pleasantries on social media multiple times. Not to forget their verbal jousting during the pre-fight presser for the event. 

This seems to have convinced Plant that a fight against the Puerto Rican native will be a superhit affair. Speaking to Michelle Joy Phelps on Fight Hub TV recently, Plant told Phelps, “As of now, I feel like a fight with me and Berlanga would be nice, even though he just lost.” The interim WBA super lightweight champion explained Berlanga would be a splendid choice because of their feud. 

“I think stepping right to him very next, he’s got some things to say about me and we’ve had disagreements, so why don’t we just figure it out?” However, the former IBF super middleweight champion also had other names in mind—and let’s just say, all of them sound like bangers.

Caleb Plant reveals who he would fight beside Edgar Berlanga

While the potential Berlanga fight is the one most fans would want to see, Plant has alternatives that could further solidify his presence in the division. The first name that came to ‘Sweethands’ mind during the interview was Jermell Charlo. However, since Charlo’s loss to Canelo last year in September, he has not been seen or heard from. 

Plant also revealed he would be open to fighting Christian Mbilli, who is coming off a win against Sergiy Derevyanchenko. Interestingly, after Mbilli’s last fight, he expressed interest in facing Alvarez, but he might have to settle for Plant for now. Then there’s Jaime Munguia, who also faced defeat against Canelo in May this year. 

However, Munguia has bounced back with a 10th-round knockout win over Erik Bazinyan, meaning fighting Plant next might not be the worst idea. Regardless, these potential fights didn’t seem to hold that much importance for Plant, who concluded, “Preferably, even though he just lost, I feel like me and Berlanga.”

That said, Caleb Plant seems adamant about fighting Edgar Berlanga next. However, there has not been a word on whether Berlanga would consider this fight. Do you think it’s a good fight to make? Or should Plant go knocking on another door?
