Chennedy Carter’s career has never been short on drama. Her not being selected by any team last season would’ve made many think that she would not be her feisty self again. But old habits are hard to lose. And it has been in front of the public eye since the Las Vegas Aces lost 95-87 to the Dallas Wings, with their rookie Azzi Fudd starting her first game.

Turns out, the veteran guard is now taking shots at the rookie and her fans because of how the game turned out. Knowing head coach Becky Hammon, she wouldn’t take this lightly. And that’s exactly what WNBA legend Candace Parker is warning Carter about.
“I’ll go right to Chennedy Carter and Azzi Fudd,” Parker said on the Post Moves podcast. “After the Aces’ loss to the Wings, Carter took a shot at Fudd on social media, saying that she got away with fouls or something and then arguing with fans on threads.
“Chennedy also alluded to still being on a leash in Vegas, which probably didn’t sit well with Becky Hammon if I know her very well.”
The No. 1 pick of the season made substantial use of her opportunity, recording 22 points against a stacked Aces perimeter featuring Chelsea Gray and Carter. While the performance was overwhelming, Fudd’s fans took their elation to a level higher on social media.
The fans’ general sentiment was that Fudd dominated Carter and played better than the Aces guard, who finished with 14 points in 19 minutes. Knowing her flamboyance, Carter wasn’t going to take the jab and immediately hit back on Threads.
“Not to mention, I made her ankle touch the ground,” the Aces star wrote. “But y’all can hollar at me when my leash is off, too. It’s completely unfair, even though statistically, it’s not even close.”
Given that Hammon doesn’t like her players making a mess on social media, it is likely that Carter might be spoiling her second chance at a WNBA career for no reason. Her 2024 season also didn’t go smoothly.
Then, with the Chicago Sky, she took multiple jabs on and off the floor with the then-rookie Caitlin Clark, with at least four flagrant fouls on her. By the end of the season, she had locker room issues where Angel Reese turned her back to Carter as well. By 2025, Carter was already out of the WNBA, playing in international leagues, continuing her playing career silently.
Her stint at the Atlanta Dream also didn’t come without controversy when she got into a tussle with teammate Courtney Williams in 2021. By then, she had already made a name for herself for being excessively physical. What’s worth noting is that statistically, the veteran is having a much better season than Fudd.
The Aces guard is scoring 17.5 points per game while shooting 65.1% from the field and 58.8% from deep, as per ESPN. Meanwhile, Fudd is averaging 12.1 ppg while scoring 57.1% from the field and 43.8% from beyond the arc.
And if all of this wasn’t enough, Chennedy Carter struck back with another post on Threads for her critics.
“30-day ban starting now, bc you drag situations. ” You’ll learn this app is a free app and fans don’t own it!” she wrote.

Carter’s social media antics aren’t helping anyone in this situation. The Aces’ guard is quite aware of what controversies eventually lead to in this league.
Carter’s return to the league with the Las Vegas Aces felt like poetic justice. She was killing it on the court, dropping 20+ points with ease. And everybody thought she had finally shaken off her devils to focus entirely on the court. But these gestures of criticizing a rookie like Azzi Fudd and engaging in fan wars even after these incidents just feel like an anticlimax.
Former NBA player Michael Redd also reacted to Carter’s gesture towards Fudd in the best way possible. “A real friend needs to log her out of her social accounts right now,” he wrote. And to be honest, Redd isn’t even the only one to echo this sentiment.

Mick Curley from the Mick Talk Hoops has also doubled down on this entire social media controversy. According to Curley, engaging in these unnecessary arguments just doesn’t suit a player of Chennedy Carter’s stature.
“Chennedy Carter needs to shut up,” Curley said on his YouTube channel. “Chennedy, you are literally one of the best players in the world. Like, you might be the best female basketball player in the world. And I don’t think it’s a crazy statement to make.
“But at the end of the day, you’ve got to stay off social media. It’s just not worth it. It’s just not worth it at all.”
It is certainly true. Carter carries many features that a team would look for in their guard: energy, speed, relentlessness, shooting prowess, and being the everything guy too. But her off-court antics and on-court physicality has always kept her in a bad light.
Notably, throughout this entire fiasco surrounding Fudd, the Dallas Wings guard hasn’t shared any comment. The No. 1 draftee has maintained her poise and hasn’t forced her way into the controversy.
In his conversation, Curley also shed light on Fudd’s perspective in this situation. “She is fearless,” Curley added. “And don’t mistake kindness for weakness. You don’t get to that level that Azzi Fudd got to at basketball while being soft.”
Carter is indeed playing at a much higher level than Azzi Fudd at the moment. But the Wings rookie is catching up quickly and has also adapted to the dynamics well in her last few games. We saw how she dropped back-to-back 20+ points against the New York Liberty and the Aces.
And given her caliber as a player, this is just the beginning for Fudd, as she has a much higher future ceiling. All in all, this Cold War seems to be far from over at the moment, given that the Dallas Wings and the Las Vegas Aces will still square off twice in the season.
