There seems to be quite a bit of commotion in the boxing community, but interestingly, not because of boxing. Just hours ago, Chicago Sky’s Chennedy Carter tackled Caitlin Clark of Indiana Fever to the ground in the 3rd quarter of their match in Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Immediately the move was declared as an away-from-the-ball foul, which prompted spicy comments from Jake Paul and Claressa ShieldsAfter Indiana won the Commissioner’s Cup by 71-70, Carter refused to comment on her unwarranted move during the press conference. However, the sporting community seems to have taken notice of the situation that unfolded.

Jake Paul demands immediate action after Caitlin Clark hits the court

Reacting to the check from Carter, Paul wrote, “Hating on Caitlin Clark is hating on opportunity for an entire sport.” Catlin Clark has emerged as the next big thing in the WNBA—after impressing the world with her skills during her time in Iowa Hawkeyes women’s basketball, the 22-year-old women’s basketball sensation signed with Indiana Fever in April. However, her start in the big league isn’t going as well as many had thought, especially after her last game.

So, in a later tweet, ‘The Problem Child’ added, “WNBA needs to fix this before players and people get hurt.” While Paul seemed worried about the rising star, the same can not be said about Claressa Shields, who seemed ready to throw hands.

In a tweet hours earlier, the undisputed women’s boxing champion wrote, “Chennedy Carter need a good [punch emoji] to the face or a push to the ground! Cause what is this!” While Shields won’t get her wish granted, Fever coach Christie Sides intends to take the issue to the league for review as they’ve always done. Notably, they aren’t the only unhappy troopers in the boxing community about the entire thing!

Alycia Baumgardner lines up and urges athletes to do better

Before the foul took place, both Carter and Clark struggled for a loose ball as they engaged in a back-and-forth down the court. Carter just swished a jumper over Kelsey Mitchell, and while Aliyah Boston was waiting to inbound the ball to Clark, Carter straight-up bumped into Clark near the baseline.

Coach, Sides, asserted she was proud of Clark for not going after Carter after the incident. While she didn’t see it happen live, Sides believes it warranted a reviewable play, especially since lesser ones have been reviewed by the referees. Nevertheless, reacting to a clip of the incident, Alycia Baumgardner wrote, “Atp, it’s clear the energy some of these Women are carrying. Do better!”

While Caitlin Clark doesn’t seem too bothered, Jake Paul and Claressa Shields are up in arms, demanding for a change immediately. However, whether the situation escalates further is yet to be seen. What did you think about the foul?
