Forbes’ richest sports personality in 2021 is yet to sail a journey to regain lost glory. The octagon may even have forgotten Conor McGregor‘s face by this time. Yet, notwithstanding the inglorious exit at the UFC 264, followed by the subsequent absence from active fighting, The Notorious kept himself newsworthy through motley observations and reviews over social media platforms. But, of course, it is another matter that a few of his rants open a can worm, forcing birds of a feather to flock together.

British Youtuber turned boxer KSI offset the latest matter of contention with comments on Conor’s longtime sparring partner Dillon Danis. The Nightmare and El Jefe will box it out on 14th January at Wembley Stadium in London. The fight has already overdrawn on its propaganda with firestorms and uproar at the weigh-in and social media.

KSI stands out as the clear favorite. With three professional wins in boxing, he has a definite upper hand over the American grappler. Dillion has not fought a single MMA bout since 2019, let alone a boxing contest.

Conor McGregor – least connected with the new genre of boxing

Unperturbed, The Notorious retorted that Dillon should be focusing on his mixed martial arts career. Moreover, he confirmed that the new boxing genre’s outcomes were acceptable. Often termed YouTube boxing or Crossover boxing, interchangeably, it is still a contentious matter of discussion among boxing purists.

Logan Paul and Deji close ranks on The Notorious

Questioning the former UFC champion segregating boxing into sub-genres, he highlighted that despite being a YouTuber; he lasted the complete eight rounds against Floyd Mayweather. However, it’s a different matter that, post-match, Logan Paul was thankful to have survived despite it being an exhibition.

Both Logan and Conor share a common history as opponents of Floyd Mayweather. The latter lost his debut boxing match on 26th August 2017 when The Money stopped him in the tenth round. Despite the apparent outcome, the bout went down in history as the second-highest-grosser in terms of pay-per-view sales.

Following The Maverick’s lead, KSI’s younger brother and YouTuber Deji Olatunji huddled with a snappy comeback. But unlike Logan, Deji barely managed to scrape through the exhibition against Mayweather. The referee had to intervene and stop the match by the sixth round. However, he was still proud that he landed a punch that gave a bruised eye to one of the most significant figures in boxing history.

While fighters amused fans and enthusiasts with their banter, the debate on the entry of entertainers participating in boxing matches continues. Setting aside the downright entertainment it provides, whether it will change the flow of traditional boxing remains to be seen.
