Kamaru Usman recently lost his UFC welterweight title after suffering a brutal KO against Leon Edwards at UFC 278. This was Usman’s sixth title defense, and this loss also ended his 19-fight winning streak. Usman had recently also called out the unified world champion, Canelo Alvarez. And, in a wholesome turn of events, Alvarez wasted no time in extending his support to Usman.

Alvarez was talking to FightHype at the media workout ahead of his trilogy showdown against Gennady Golovkin. In conversation, the reporter asked him about Usman’s loss and also reminded him of ‘The Nigerian Nightmare‘g calling him out.

He was quick to back up his potential adversary. Alvarez said, “This happens, come by the sport. So everybody can lose, you never know.”

Moreover, he also praised Usman for a stellar performance in the fight, saying, “I think he was winning. Right? All the fighting, just one single punch, changed everything. But, look, he’s a great fighter.”

Kamaru Usman had expressed his desire to crossover into boxing. He even mentioned that he wished to face Canelo Alvarez as his potential opponent after his fight with Leon Edwards.

Usman was talking to TMZ Sports. And, he was reigning high on his winning streak of almost 9 years when he spoke about fighting Alvarez. He said, “In 2022 I’m gonna shock the world. July, International Fight Week, I’m gonna fight Leon Edwards. God willing I get through Leon Edwards, September, Mexican Independence Day, I will stop Canelo Alvarez.”

Usman also mentioned that it would be a $100 million fight for both Alvarez and himself.
