Kody ‘Big Mo’ Mommaerts was the ring announcer for the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson fight. While it’s unclear how he felt about the Netflix-exclusive fight, legendary ring announcer, Michael Buffer, who has announced several fights for former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson in the past, didn’t seem too pleased with the bout.

Paul and Tyson put on a show last Friday night at Jerry World, which turned out to be a lackluster performance from the duo. While Tyson started strong and on the front foot, the reality of his age quickly started showing, as Paul took over the action in the later rounds. Eventually, Paul was crowned the victor via a unanimous decision. 

Regardless, while speaking to iFL TV from the Gilberto Ramirez vs. Chris Billam-Smith event in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia today, Buffer shared his take on the fight. “I’m glad nobody got hurt,” he said when asked about his thoughts on the fight. “I’m always glad, in any fight, when nobody gets hurt. But especially Mike, we’ve known each other for 40 years.”

Claiming he loves Mike Tyson, Buffer hoped that the bout “didn’t take away from the sport of boxing and the type of show we had here tonight with like four great fights out of the whole card.” Notably, Ramirez defeated Billam-Smith via a unanimous decision to unify his WBA cruiserweight strap with his opponent’s WBO title.

Also on the card, Arnold Barboza Jr. defeated Jose Ramirez via unanimous decision and William Zepeda defended his WBC interim lightweight title against Tevin Farmer. Nonetheless, Buffer further reflected on the Paul-Tyson fight, while throwing a subtle shade at the fight, labeling the fight an “exhibition” “We want fight fans to enjoy the fights, not just exhibitions,” he said.

When asked whether the fight was difficult for him to watch, Buffer seems to have dodged the question a little bit. “I watched it on a replay and kind of zipped through it because it was the same thing in every round,” Buffer told iFL TV. However, Buffer isn’t the only one who isn’t happy with the cross-generational fight. 

Joe Rogan joins Michael Buffer in disappointment about the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson fight

UFC commentator and popular podcaster Joe Rogan is a big-time Mike Tyson fan—there’s no doubt about that. He was hoping Tyson could tap into his prime to teach Paul a lesson or two. Before the fight began, the podcast host took to X to write, “I’m getting ready to watch this Tyson vs Jake Paul fight…,” he wrote.  

“Like I’m watching someone cast a spell that I hope actually works. And I don’t really believe in magic. But I want to believe,” Rogan added. Despite his hopes for a miracle, Paul managed to pull off a victory against Tyson. So, after the bout, Rogan got on X one more time, writing, “Magic isn’t real.”

It appears while Jake Paul is celebrating his win over Mike Tyson as if Tyson was in his prime, the rest of the community is not so happy about the fight. However, what about you? Are you happy to see Paul win? Or does Tyson’s loss at 58 sting?
