Bryce Mitchell might be the most unpopular and controversial personality in the combat sports world right now. He took the entire world off guard a few days ago when on his podcast, he claimed that Adolf Hitler was actually a “good guy.” Not only that, Mitchell went as far as to justify the dictator’s crimes as an act to “purify” his country.

Needless to say, the absurd statement attracted a lot of backlash including from the UFC head honcho, Dana White, who condemned the statement while calling the featherweight a “moron”. However, White refused to take any actions against the fighter, citing “free speech.” Regardless, YouTuber turned pro-wrestler Logan Paul also jumped the criticism train while dropping a bit of advice for the UFC head honcho on how to treat the controversy.

Is that even a punishment, Logan Paul?

On the recent episode of Impaulsive, The Maverick sat down with Mike Majlak and Nick Nayersina. The hour-long podcast featured Paul discussing various things. As the conversation went forward, the trio brushed up on the recent Bryce Mitchell controversy and stated how tone-deaf his entire statement actually was. Logan Paul firstly criticized Dana White for not taking any action against Mitchell and “not forcing any form of punishment for I would believe to be dangerous ideologies or beliefs—hate speech or whatever it is.”

The former WWE United States champion believes that Mitchell is a popular fighter and can influence the fans with these kinds of statements. “That more dumba***s like Bryce Mitchell who think the f****ng earth is flat are gonna like… Yes, 99% of people hear what he says and is like, ‘This guy is so f***ing ignorant and stupid.’ But there’s 1% of the population who will now be turned onto this stupid f****ng ideology,” exclaimed Logan Paul passionately.

The Maverick claimed that he understood the perspective of Dana White. And a fine would go against the idea of Dana White’s free speech stance, something which the 1-0 boxer has “respect” for. However, he doesn’t agree that Mitchell could roam free without any repercussions as well. Logan Paul therefore suggested a perfect punishment that, according to the YouTuber, would befit his repugnant statement.

Did Dana White's free speech stance go too far by not punishing Bryce Mitchell's outrageous comments?

Have an interesting take?

Paul advised the UFC head honcho to force Mitchell to fight against the current featherweight champion Ilia Topuria, a fight that Mitchell is very likely to lose, and “against someone who he’s gonna get murdered by, and say if you lose, you are gone,” posited the 29-year-old. But a title shot hardly seems like an apt punishment for regurgitating a hateful ideology.

Nevertheless, Logan Paul is not the only personality who has criticized Mitchell’s statements. Another UFC star, known for his shocking takes, had a rather different viewpoint of the situation.

Sean Strickland’s unrestrained take

Sean Strickland, known for his candid and unapologetic opinions, also weighed in on the controversy during UFC 312’s media day. The former UFC middleweight champion believes that Mitchell is a victim of his own ignorance. “I don’t think Bryce is a N*zi, I think Bryce is a f**ing idiot from Arkansas who is not educated, and I think Bryce is just feeding into the propaganda,” exclaimed ‘Tarzan.’

Weighing on the severity of the situation, Strickland believes that it won’t have much effect. After all, no person with a sane mind will believe the absurd statement. “How many people actually agree with him? I don’t,” stated Strickland plainly.

The statement by Bryce Mitchell has deservedly gotten backlash from all around the globe. However, it also has exposed the fine line between free speech and consequences. Furthermore, as Logan Paul stated, people like Mitchell have a pedestal from where they can penetrate a broad audience. So, letting him go scot-free without any repercussions can definitely affect more people and how they use the UFC platform.
