Terence Crawford hasn’t been inside the ring for seven months now. He stepped on the canvas last year when he fought against Errol Spence Jr, and since then he’s been rumored to be in discussion for multiple fights. Furthermore, the boxing fans are hyped up about the possibility of a matchup between Terence Crawford and Canelo Alvarez. Crawford, currently the unified welterweight champion, has dominated the pound-for-pound rankings.

Canelo, a Mexican boxing icon, holds titles across multiple weight divisions. The challenge for Crawford lies in the significant weight difference. A potential fight would require Crawford to make a daring jump of three weight classes. However, Crawford seems undeterred, expressing his willingness to test himself against the legendary Canelo. However, Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya has different plans for ‘Bud’ and even proposed a lucrative fight for him.

“Think like a fighter”: Oscar De La Hoya wants the best for Terence Crawford

The disagreement between Terence Crawford and Oscar De La Hoya has been a recurring thing. Back in October 2023, Terence Crawford weighed in on the ongoing debate about boxer’s involvement in fight negotiations. While Crawford believes that boxers should have more control over fight negotiations, De La Hoya worries that excessive fighter control could lead to drawn-out negotiations, hindering the overall fight schedule.

De La Hoya further argued that fighters shouldn’t stall negotiations over minor details, wasting valuable time that could be spent actively competing. Now, De La Hoya has again said something contradictory to Crawford’s approach towards fighting. De La Hoya stated, “This what I tell Crawford. Wow you’re losing your opportunity, you came you conquered, and now what? Don’t let your flame just go away. You’re on top of the world but start thinking like a fighter again.

Furthermore, De La Hoya stated, “Don’t think like a businessman, think like a fighter, get back in the ring. Do what you do best, fight the best. Yes. you will beat everybody, but you must get back in that ring, trust me. I’ve been there I’ve done that, get back in the ring.” He even recommended Virgil Ortiz for his next fight. As of now, Crawford still seems clueless about his upcoming fight, but Floyd Mayweather has also pitched in with his opinion.

Floyd Mayweather plans the next course of action for Crawford

Unified welterweight champion Terence Crawford is facing a familiar foe – finding an opponent for his next fight. A planned rematch with Errol Spence, his last opponent, seems unlikely. Spence recently underwent a cataract surgery and is expected to take several months to recover, putting the rematch on hold.

Boxing legend Floyd Mayweather has suggested a solution – Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis. Mayweather believes Ennis, who currently holds the IBF Welterweight title, would be a good fit for Crawford’s next outing. He told FightHype, “Somebody’s gotta give ‘Boots’ the opportunity. It’s been difficult for Terence Crawford to get the Spence rematch done, it’s been difficult to get the Canelo fight done, so his other option is to fight ‘Boots’ Ennis.

Now it remains to be seen who Crawford listens to, Mayweather or De La Hoya. What do you think about Crawford’s situation? Let us know in the comments section.
